The CRF flows into pituitary gland by specialized system of blood vessels. It’s secretion is in control of Corticotrophin releasing factor (CRF) which is formed in hypothalamus. During this stage the body releases many hormones, important among them is the Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).Īdrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is released by some cells of pituitary gland in the blood. If stress continues the body enters into the next stage called as the stage of resistance. In this stage the body shows responses with the help of sympathetic nervous system and that prepares the body for fight or flight response. The alarm reaction is the emergency response of a body to a stressful situation the body is experiencing. GENERAL ADAPTATION SYNDROME Alarm reaction The general adaptation syndrome consists of following three stages: Selye observed a similar pattern of responses in animals and humans, which he drafted together to form a model, called General adaptation syndrome.
He also observed patients with injuries and illness in hospitals. In forming this model Selye, studied animals subjected to high temperature and then carefully studied their x-rays. Hans Selye (1956, 1976) proposed this model. General Adaptation Syndrome is a model which explains how human body gets affected when exposed to a stress for a long time.
